NAC differs with govt on new rules for RTI Act

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) is on collision course once again with the government. This time the bone of contention is the new draft rules framed for Right to Information (RTI) Act which make it mandatory for applicants to file questions on a single subject in 250 words. NAC’s sub-group on transparency and accountability, headed by social activist Aruna Roy, has sent a strongly-worded critique of the draft rules to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) saying the draft rules were against the “spirit of the RTI Act” . According to sources, NAC discussed the issue for 15 minutes in its meeting on Monday and adopted the sub-group’s views
