Vinita Kamte, 4 others win RTI award

The jury singled out Vinita for showing courage in taking on the establishment in moment of grief
Slain Mumbai police officer Ashok Kamte’s wife Vinita, who exposed the chaos in the police control room on 26/11 and restored her husband’s honour, will get this year’s RTI award along with four others, including Goa’s young political activist Rajan Savlo Ghate for his campaign against foreigners owning properties in the tourist heaven. A jury -with Infosys chief mentor Narayana Murthy, former chief justice of India J S Verma, former chief election commissioner J M Lyngdoh and media personality Madhu Trehan as members -went through the stories of those who used RTI as an instrument to make an impact.
