Former babus Tiwari, Lala refuse to step down

While the state government has asked retired bureaucrats Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari and State Human Rights Commission member Subhash Lala to resign from their present posts after their names were linked to the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam, the two have apparently refused to step down. A senior bureaucrat said while the Prithviraj Chavan-led Congress-NCP state
government had asked the two to put in their papers, they had declined. While Tiwari's son Omkar is a member of the society located in upmarket Cuffe Parade, Lala's mother Susheela Shaligram and daughter Sumeela Sethi are also in the society, the controversy over which was the trigger for the removal of Ashok Chavan as Chief Minister in November.
