Rs 10,000 cr scam in Water Resources dept

The All Assam Shramik Krishak Kalyan Parishad today alleged that the State Water Resources Department is involved in a scam worth more than Rs 10,000 crore. Alleging that the government and the department concerned has not successfully implemented the schemes meant for solving the flood problem in the State, the Parishad today claimed that the documents it has obtained through RTI prove that nearly 70 per cent of the amount meant for flood control and other works related to water resource development has been siphoned off by the minister, officers and employees of the Department of Water Resource. The Parishad asked the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to order a CBI probe into the matter. "Only 30 per cent of the work has been completed in different districts of the State and the money allotted for rest of the 70 per cent work has been pocketed by the corrupt officials of the department," said Baleswar Rongpi, vice president of the Parishad, while addressing a press meet today.
