GSIC asks cops to give info they denied earlier

Setting aside the order of the inspector general of police, the Goa state information commission has directed the SP (SP), South Goa to furnish information as sought by one Jervasio Pereira of Utorda. The commission also rebuked the police justification of denying information under Section 8 (exemption of disclosure) of the RTI Act, stating that "Section 8 should not be used so as to evade or dodge the demand for information".
Aggrieved by the denial of information by SP (South), Pereira had filed his first appealbefore the IGP, who also turned him down. Pereira then filed his second appeal before the commission asking it to direct the police to furnish him the information. He also prayed that the commission initiate disciplinary proceedings against the SP and the IGP for "deliberately and knowingly denying the documents" sought by him.
