90% shops fail confidence test weights and measures
The merchandise you are purchasing in the city may weight a little less than your expectations. Information procured under the Right To Information Act has revealed that during surprise checks carried out in UT shops last year nearly 90% of weighing scales and cloth meters were found unchecked and unverified. A total of 84 challans were also issued in this regard. A total of 43 electronically-operated scales were checked and only three were found to be fair. Fare meters at leading grocery and general stores were also found also unstamped and unverified.
