Varsity moved goal post to favour job seeker: RTI

In the last two weeks, the governor's office has been flooded with reports about
illegal staff and faculty appointments at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. The university has admitted that it appointed staff in 2008 without following the mandatory procedure like approaching the state employment exchange to suggest candidates or follow the community roster. In a reply to a query under the Right to Information Act, university officials said M Shanthi had been appointed, on a temporary basis, as University Grants Commission co-ordinator on October 29, 2008 with a salary of Rs 9,100 a month. No names were called from the employment register before the selection. Worse,
there was no such post in university statutes. What's more, three days after the appointment, the university placed an advertisement in a newspaper seeking applications for the same post. It said those with a master's degree, good knowledge of English and communication skills could apply before November 5, 2008.
