Nagpur information chief Vilas Patil is new CIC of Maharashtra

The suspense over who will be the next chief information commissioner is finally over. Nagpur information commissioner Vilas Patil (64) will take over the post after the present incumbent, Suresh Patil's five-year term comes to an end on October 12. In a move, which many in the political circles are terming as bold, a high-level committee comprising CM Ashok Chavan, deputy CM Chhagan Bhujbal and opposition leader Eknath Khadse recommended Patil's name to the governor on Thursday. Besides Patil, who will retire in July 2011, the panel recommended the appointment of P D Patil, a retired joint registrar, as well as M S Shah and D B Deshpande, both retired PWD secretaries, as the new information commissioners for Nagpur, Nashik and Aurangabad respectively.
