Regularization of colonies deferred

Replies by Delhi government to RTI queries show how it used the issue related to regularization of unauthorized colonies just ahead of the last assembly elections to return to power for the third time. Though the government had promised to complete the regularization process within a year — end of 2009 — it has now stated that the deadline has been extended till October this year. Delhi government had kicked off the process of handing over of provisional regularization certificates in October 2008 with a lot of fanfare and had even got UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to distribute the first few certificates. Government completed the process of issuing these certificates to 1,639 such societies in the next few months.
