PMC evades RTI query, fined Rs 25,000

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been fined Rs 25,000 by the State Information Commission (SIC) for failing to part with information sought by city-based Right to Information (RTI) activists. SIC has also directed the PMC commissioner to make special efforts to implement Section 4 of RTI Act.Maj Gen SCN Jathar, Vivek Velankar, Sujit Patwardhan and Vijay Kumbhar had appealed to irrigation minister Ajit Pawar about the dismal water supply of Pune.The quartet had also filed an RTI plea on August 17, 2009 seeking information from the PMC on the same issue.The PMC had sustained a loss of Rs 6 crore as they had to pay a fine to the Irrigation department due to a wrong water supply pipeline laid by the civic body.
