RTI activist has ‘proof’ of Assam Health Minister's ULFA past

RTI activist Akhil Gogoi Sunday claimed to have dug out two files that reveal Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma was arrested in 1991 for his alleged links with outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). The two files containing case diaries of two TADA cases involving Sharma were reportedly missing from police stations since 1996. Gogoi said he would soon submit the the case diaries to the Supreme Court and petition it to re-open the TADA cases against the Sharma, who is said to be the most powerful minister in Assam. Gogoi also claimed that he possessed “a lot of documents” pertaining to the 1991 murder of Assam Congress general secretary Manabendra Sharma and “copies of confessional statements” made by “some of the minister’s accomplices in ULFA”.
