Jannath likely to bag CIC job

The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Monday decided to convene a meeting on June 30 to finalise the selection of the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) to head the Right To Information (RTI) Commission. The current CIC, Mr C. D. Arha, will demit office in July having attained the upper age limt of 65 years. It is most likely that the special chief secretary working in the Chief Minister's peshy, Mr Jannath Hussain, will be picked for the post. As per the Right to Information Act, the selection panel must consist of the Chief Minister, the Opposition Leader in the Legislative Assembly, which in this case is the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and a senior
minister nominated by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister has nominated Dr J. Geeta Reddy, the minister for information, as the third member. RTI activists are unhappy with the selection procedure and have urged the state government to make it more transparent and document it properly. Led by the noted RTI campaigner, Mr C.J. Karira, they have submitted a letter to the special chief secretary, Mr S. Bhale Rao.
