CIC notice to MHA for delay in info on Netaji probe panel

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has pulled up the ministry of home affairs (MHA) for delay of three-and-a-half years in giving information on the Justice Mukherjee Commission that was set up to investigate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's death. CIC recently issued a show cause notice to the ministry asking why a fine of Rs 25,000 should not be slapped on it. Applicant Chandrachur Ghose had asked for information on "exhibits" mentioned in the Justice Mukherjee Commission report in November 2006. However, he is yet to receive any information. In an order issued recently the CIC issued a showcause notice asking CPIO S K Malhotra to reply by June 30 on why he should not be held liable for "deliberating obstructing furnishing of information sought despite orders from the Commission". However, chief information commissioner Wajahat Habibullah also added that the CPIO could appear personally with the documents on July 14.
