Activists to monitor information commissioners' appointments
Right to Information (RTI) activists have kicked off a campaign to bring transparency in the selection process of state and central information commissioners that head the commissions dealing with grievances related to the RTI Act. The RTI Act enables citizens to obtain information about government functioning. The activists will be flooding government offices with applications for the posts of the Central Information Commissioner and the State Information Commissioner of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
“Typically, these posts are filled in by retiring bureaucrats and there are no open advertisements to apply for them. We want the recruitment process to be transparent and democratic,“ said Mumbai RTI activist G.R. Vora.
