Give information or shell out Rs 25,000: CIC to BoI

The Central Information Commission (CIC), New Delhi, recently issued a show-cause notice to the Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) at Bank of India’s Ahmedabad Zonal office, asking why a maximum penalty of Rs 25,000 should not be imposed on him for delay in providing information. The order dated December 15, 2009 was issued after the Bank of India failed to respond to complainant Jivanlal Shah’s application filed under RTI. The 70-year-old Ambawadi resident had sought records of his correspondence with the bank’s Ellisbridge branch as well as zonal office over the past three years. The Commission has now directed the CPIO to provide the information by January 8, 2010.
