CM, Guv's homes have faulty meters

A recent RTI query revealed that even the who’s who of the city have to make do with hardly-working meters. In fact, the BMC data shows that the 1.83 lakh defunct water meters (old) include those installed at VIP bungalows, including that of CM Ashok Chavan and governor S C Jameer. This information came to light when a Charni Road resident, Chetan Kothari, applied under the RTI Act to know how much water was supplied to the CM, governor and civic chief. The reply revealed that the exact consumption at the governor’s and CM’s bungalows could not be determined as both the houses had faulty meters. Civic chief Sawdheen Kshatriya lives at an unmetered house. All these meters in question are the old plastic mechanical ones, making them easy to be tampered with. The BMC charges a rent for the mechanical meters; for a 2-inch pipeline, the rent of the meter is Rs 150 per cycle.
