Noida PIOs pulled up for poor disposal of RTI cases

Concerned over rising disputes of RTI cases from Noida and Greater Noida, the State Information Commissioner of Uttar Pradesh Gynendra Sharma had a marathon meeting with senior district and authority officials on Wednesday and summoned all the public information officers (PIOs) on Thursday in the district headquarter at Surajpur in Greater Noida.

"The disposal of RTI cases in the Noida and Greater Noida is very unsatisfactory which responsible for pile up of RTI litigation in Lucknow. Both the authorities are financially sound and adjacent to the National Capital so they must set standards in RTI disposal by hiring more staff and equipment," said Sharma.

The commissioner also found that the authorities have never displayed the information regarding various development projects in their jurisdiction which is mandatory under section (4) of the RTI Act. "The RTI cases from the district are generally related to land issues, irregularities in allotment of developed plots and flats, non-performance of civic duties by the concerned authorities which are promised from time to time," added Sharma. Several RTI cases in Noida and Greater Noida authority are pending since years and even the first appellate authority has not decided them who have a limitation of only 30 days.
