No water in Sharda Sahayak Canal

Around 50 villages of the district where irrigation facility is based on Sharda Sahayak Canal get no water from this canal to irrigate their fields. To make a complaint in this regard, chairman of Right to Information Task Force of UP Congress Committee Shailendra Singh met divisional commissioner Nepal Singh Ravi on Thursday. In his memorandum submitted to the commissioner, Singh mentioned that after entering the district from Jaunpur border, the canal passed through around 50 villages up to Niyar in Varanasi district. However, for the past 10 years, water could not reach even up to the tail end of the canal, he alleged. He added farmers of those villages informed him that the reason for the problem was that water was not released in sufficient quantity from the regulator installed at Jaunpur border. He said farmers in those villages also revealed that there was no crisis of water for irrigation when the canal was linked with Bhaisa pump canal. He informed that due to unavailability of water in the canal, no attention was paid towards its maintenance. He claimed the reason had also led to reducing the yield up to 50 per cent in the past decade due to which the financial condition of farmers had also worsened.
