Health dept fiat creates shortage of doctors

As many as 197 doctors in the health and family welfare department and working on deputation in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), some dental colleges and other government institutions, have been asked report to their parent department following a directive from the state information commissioner Dr HN Krishna. S Amaresh had filed an RTI seeking information on the number of doctors on deputation in various government bodies, as there was an acute shortage of medical officers in the health department. Nearly 10 months after a court order following the RTI, the health department recently issued a circular to all doctors working on deputation to return to the parent department as soon as possible. No strict deadlines have been set though.
