CIC raps Rashtrapati Bhawan Secretariat over RTI query delay

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has pulled up the Rashtrapati Bhawan's Secretariat for delay in giving information to a citizen under the Right to Information Act. The Commission has issued a show cause notice to CPIO, President's Secretariat, Faiz Ahmad Kidwai, asking him why a penalty of Rs 4,500 should not be imposed on him for delay in giving information. Under Section 20(1) of the RTI Act-2005, the CIC or the SIC, has the powers to impose a penalty on public information officer if the officer has not produced the requested information within 30 days of receiving the application. The amount of penalty shall be Rs 250 per day and it has to be paid by the PIO from his salary and not by the Public Authority.
