Education dept says all institutes covered under RTI Act

The next time any educational institute, especially a non-aided one, refuses to reveal information stating that the Right to Information Act (RTI) does not apply to them, go ahead and file an RTI plea. Education department officials have clarified that the RTI Act does apply to such institutes and even cited a 2008 government resolution to back their claim. On being asked by Pune Mirror, V M Gaikwad, assistant director of education department for Pune region, said, “According to the government rule, it is
mandatory for all educational institutes to provide information under the RTI Act.”
