400 files missing in fisheries dept
An inspection of the records of the fisheries department by a right to information (RTI) activist appears to have landed the authorities in trouble. It has revealed that as many as 405 files, pertaining to the fishermen welfare fund, are missing in the office of the assistant director (marine) in Ponneri. It also found a mismatch of signatures of about 500 beneficiaries of the fund. M Thuyamurthy of Tondiarpet, a retired superintendent of the department, in July and October this year perused records of the national fishermen relief and welfare fund in which a fisherman can get Rs 600 as assistance in the offseason every year. It was also revealed that 405 files pertaining to the 2000-2006 period had gone missing.
