K'nataka HC Orders Disclosure Of Assets

The High Court of Karnataka has upheld an order passed by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike special commissioner under which Health Department officials have been asked to furnish information on their Assets and Liabilities. The Informqtion was sought by an editor of a weekly under the RTI Act. Justic E N Kumar, who dismissed petition filed by senior health inspector L R Mohan Raj and others, observed that the RTI Act is meant to be usd for matters related to public interest. "The public has a right to seek information about any official, and this was made known when the law was enforced." Justice Kumar observed.
