'Babus guilty of violating RTI act'
More than 250 of the government officials have been found guilty of violating the Act by the State Information Commission (SIC) in less than two years of its existence. Says information commissioner P N Narayanan, "The preamble to the Act says that information will lead to reduction in corruption. Babus being the beneficiaries of corruption, they are bound to resist the implementation of the Act." With the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) officials often featuring in the list of defaulters, the Bihar Administrative Service Association (BASA) begs to differ. "RTI is being used as a means to harass officials who have not been equipped properly to store information for providing it to applicants within the time limit," said BASA president A C Mishra.
