Nagaland to have first RTI public hearing on Oct 17
Stated to be the first, a public "hearing" of the state under the Right to Information (RTI) Act is to be held at Suruhuto town on the October 17. This is being jointly organized by the Suruhuto Range Students Union (SRSU), YouthNet and North East Network (NEN). SRSU, YouthNet and NEN have been working for the past three months collecting information under the RTI Act 2005 said a circular from YouthNet's program officer Joshua Sheqi. The areas that are to be engaged for the RTI discourse are medical, school education, roads and electricity. YouthNet said the initiative is to bring about accountability, transparency and a check on corruption in the system as well as in assisting and strengthening the hands of the government to function efficiently. This will enable the public to enjoy the basic amenities that they are entitled to, YouthNet said.
