Goregaon citizens' campaign against concrete plant yields result

Protests by residents of Gokuldham in Goregaon (East) regarding setting up of a concrete plant in their area were finally heard when on Saturday night the equipment were moved from the area. The ready-mix concrete plant was assembled by Dynamix Group for its mega project of constructing three 45-storayed towers at Gokuldham.

Ever since the resident first sighted the equipment of the plant, they did their research on the Internet and found out the hazards caused by such a ready-mix concrete plant. "Cement causes certain diseases like skin irritations, allergies, infections to eyes and Silicosis, something that is incurable," he added.

The residents had also dashed off a right to information (RTI) application to the municipal ward office and were waiting their reply. "Essentially, this type of plants do not meet the pollution norms needed for its set up in residential areas. Our campaign was a preventive exercise so that we don't suffer later," said another resident, Pradeep Inani.
