Bihar comes under fire for suppressing police brutality

The government of Bihar has come under fire for allegedly suppressing the killing of three brothers in a fake police shootout last year in a bid to save the skin of a ruling party legislator, although police claim they were criminals killed during crossfire.

People's Watch, the human rights body that raised the issue, alleged the Nitish Kumar-led government had attempted to protect the interests of the legislator involved in it. Gladson Dungdung, a People's Watch spokesperson, said the state government had violated the Right to Information (RTI) Act. "The government has not responded to an application filed under the RTI for information on the case even after 35 days," he said.
