Bhavnagar cop fined Rs 25K for refusing info

The Gujarat Information Commission (GIC) on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on an office superintendent of Bhavnagar district police for denying information to an applicant.

The applicant, Kalpesh Bhatt, a talati-cum-mantri of Bhavnagar district had detected a major fraud in the implementation of the Sardar Patel Sah Bhagi Jal Sanchay Yojna in December 2003 in Velavadi village and had lodged an FIR against the defaulters on behalf of the state government. The police did not act on Bhatt's complaint for a long time.
