TN Information Commission taken to court
Chennai based social activist Vishwanath Swami has taken the Tamil Nadu Information Commission to court, accusing it of scuttling transparency. Vishwanath says that two years ago there was an attempt to kidnap him allegedly on the instructions of a godman. But when he sought information under the RTI to identify the people involved, the Chennai police denied him the details.
Later, he approached the State Information Commission, which ordered a showcause notice to the police in a hearing, but no written order was issued. Subsequently, the police gave him part of the information he had sought, but withheld many crucial details. Left with no option, Vishwanath has taken the TN information commission to court.
