DD Ahmedabad Director fined Rs 25k under RTI

The Central Information Commission in New Delhi has ordered the director of Doordarshan, Ahmedabad, to pay a fine of Rs 25,000 for failing to provide information sought by an aggrieved employee.

The Director, Laxman Manderwal, had transferred an engineering division staffer Manoj Pai. But Pai objected to it and wanted some details from his boss to fight his case. Pai used the right to information (RTI) Act to seek necessary information from Manderwal. When the Doordarshan chief didn’t bother to respond to his application and two reminders even for six months, Pai complained to the commission. Under the RTI Act, Manderwal should have sent his reply to Pai within 30 days.
